1975. The first prefabricated "Plattenbau" buildings were erected on Landsberger Allee in East Berlin, and my grandparents moved in.
They have lived there, in the same apartment, for more than 50 years. With the very same interior.
This work begins in a living room I know all too well: that of my grandparents.

Generally, Plattenbauten are synonymous with monotony and tristesse.
However, within these identical floor plans, there exists a stark contrast between uniformity and individualized beauty: the living rooms.
While every living room follows the same layout, each person in this series shapes the space in their own unique way, expressing their personal identity within it.

It is precisely this tension between unity and diversity between modular equality and individual self-fulfillment that I want to make visible through this work.

In contrast to Sibylle Bergemann’s P2 series, which was created between 1974 and 1984, I focus on a contemporary perspective: the central focus is the personal relationship between the human being, the living space, and architectural modularity.
